Event Description:
The Long Beach Camerata Singers will return to the stage for the 2021-2022 season on Sunday November 14 with the fifth iteration of its Peace Project series. This year's event will consider Reconciliation as its musical theme, featuring works by Black composers, arrangers and lyricists. The highlight of the concert will be the premiere of a newly-commissioned work by Grammy-winning composer, Richard Danielpour, Testimony, with libretto by poet Rita Dove. The composer will be in attendance at the concert. The chorus is led by Grammy-award winning Artistic Director, Dr. James K. Bass. The Peace Project considers music as a force for peace. Dr. Bass writes, As we see to return to the stage in this post-pandemic world, LBCS will present a deeply moving choral exploration of music and words by great Americans. Celebrating with works based on the texts of Langston Hughes, as well as the tradition of Fisk University and Tuskegee Institute, the singers will journey musically through the profound experiences of the African American Community.
